Pre-filing Counseling

By completing Consumer Credit Counseling Service of San Francisco’s pre-filing counseling program, you will have fulfilled the requirement to get started with filing bankruptcy.

The program takes about sixty to ninety minutes, and is broken into two parts. Once you complete the counseling, we will provide you a certificate of completion. The fee for certification is $50. If you are unable to pay this fee, you may be eligible to have it waived. If your income is less than 150% of the poverty level for your state and family size, your fee will be waived.

You must register for and complete this program yourself. Your attorney is not permitted to do it for you.

 

Part 1:
Self-Study Course

The first part is an online self-study program and online budget worksheet designed to take 30–45 minutes to complete. If you are married and you and your spouse are both filing bankruptcy, you each must complete the online self-study program. Only one of you will need to complete the online budget worksheet.

Part 2:
Counseling Session

Once you have completed the self-study and filled out the online worksheet, you will need to call us at 800-777-7526, press option 4 to schedule your pre-filing counseling session. Our office hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (PST).
