SAN FRANCISCO - Struggling with debt? Trying to figure out how to pay for college? Planning for retirement? Here’s your chance to sit down for free with certified credit counselors from Consumer Credit Counseling Service and other financial experts to get in-person advice Oct. 22 at San Francisco’s UC Hastings College of the Law.

Financial Planning Day will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at Snodgrass Hall in the law college, providing one-on-one financial advice and credit counseling to local residents, as well as educational workshops on key personal finance topics. The event is sponsored by Wells Fargo and East West banks and hosted by San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee and Treasurer Jose Cisneros.

“Unemployment in California is three percent higher than it is nationally. With Bay Area residents losing their jobs and struggling to keep their homes, it is more of a priority than ever to provide them with financial education and counseling,” said Rick Harper, VP of Program Services at Consumer Credit Counseling Service of San Francisco. The organization is supplying nine trained, certified counselors with years of experience helping the community pay down debt, create money management plans and realize their financial goals.

Workshops at the conference will include “Investing Today: How to Be a Smarter Investor,” “Planning for the High Costs of Education: Going from Kindergarten to College,” and “Real World Retirement Planning and Other Life Transitions.”

The workshops will be offered in addition to personalized advice from CCCSSF counselors, experts from the Financial Planning Association of San Francisco and certified financial planner professionals. For more information, visit www.financialplanningdays.org.
